Right now your hair is in a transition stage. Most people find this stage very frustrating, but I know a few tricks that can help you through it. You must remind yourself that you want this and in 6-12 months, you’ll have the hairstyle you want. The best way to manage your style and mix up your look is with cute and trendy accessories. Headbands are real popular at the moment. You can also try jeweled or colored
hair pins, scarves or hats as your signature look as your tresses grow.

If you are ready for the commitment of growing your hair,
make sure you continue to have regular trims to keep your hair feeling and looking healthy. Most people think the quickest way to grow hair is not to cut it at all, but that is not the case.

The foundation provides your face with an even skin color.  It serves as a base for the application of makeup.   Foundations are notable for evening skin tones and covering blemish discoloration.  They hide small pimples, dark spots, blackheads and whiteheads.  Normally, foundation is applied right after your moisturizer.

Choose your foundation shade by matching the color to your jaw line.  Because your jaw line is between your face and neck (which are the two places that the foundation should match), it’s the optimal places to match.  However, if your face and neck are slightly different shades, attempt to find a color that is in between.

I recommend looking for store samples you can try on your skin before you buy.  Purchase a new foundation for every season.  Your skin changes shade and texture from summer to winter.  Throw out foundation after 6-8 months.  The makeup can develop bacteria after this amount of time, lose pigment and texture.

Puffiness or “bags” under the eyes are primarily caused by fluid retention. To reduce fluid retention I suggest you hydrate by drinking plenty of water. Fluid retention occurs when the body has too much salt and not enough water to flush it out. You may simply apply a cool, soothing substance to your eyes for 5 minutes to reduce fluid retention. Try cucumber slices, chilled tea bags, or a damp, cold cloth. I also recom- mend a soothing collagen mask. You can place it in the refrigerator as an added bonus. Use the mask when you have a minimum of 15 minutes to spare.

I am personally an advocate of braided hair styles; just as long as they are done professionally and not too tightly.  De-braiding your hair can be quite a chore depending on what type of braids you have worn.  There are many products on the market to make this process a bit easier, they soften the hair, so that when you are taking down the braids less hair is pulled out.  These products are also excellent in restoring moisture to your tresses as they become dry secondary to the braiding process.

It is very common to see a lot of hair when de-braiding.

Don’t be alarmed, normally it is a result of shedding.  Remember, hair sheds daily (normally up to 100 strands)…just imagine how shedding has still occurred while your hair has been braided for the last two (2) months; the only difference is that the dead hair has been “caught” inside the braids.  Also, the maintenance products i.e. braid spray, shampoos, moisturizers, etc. that have been used during your braid wearing have undoubtedly resulted in product build-up.  To minimize damage, I suggest gently combing your hair with a wide-toothed comb and then using a moisturizing shampoo thoroughly to remove all traces of product build-up, dirt and dead hair.  Follow the shampoo with a deep conditioning hot-oil treatment.  This will restore some of the hair’s natural moisture and added proteins.
